I used to blog
Back in the heyday of of blogspot and wordpress I ran a relatively popular little blog called Mr Thursday’s Curious Mechanism. It covered whatever caught my fancy at the time, often books, music, and the Philadelphia Phillies. I occasionally got other people to write posts for it, and I occasionally wrote guest posts for other blogs. It was a lovely little hobby. It died a death of neglect in 2008, though you can still find the posts of a younger man out in the world with a mininum of googling.
In the interim, the internet, for me, has become more toxic, and more passive in equal measure. I have bounced around a handful of social media sites, trying to chase the dragon that was twitter before smartphones (good lord, the delight of send texts to Shaq and Questlove back then…) before finally realizing that they’re all abattoirs. So I am back on blogs, because they feel more productive than tweets or reddit posts or whatever else.
With a little luck, and a little structure, and on the mote of optimism that no migraine lasts forever, blogging will follow my interests, as they grow and wither (but never truly die). I like to read, to listen, and to watch. And, hopefully, I like to write, again, too.
